About this tour
Acolman, in the State of Mexico, is one of the places most closely associated with the piñata tradition in our country. Its history is linked to Christmas celebrations and the traditional posadas, where piñatas became a symbol of togetherness, joy, and folk tradition.
Our tour will begin with a departure from Mexico City and breakfast in Acolman. Afterward, we will visit the Former Convent of San Agustín, an important 16th-century building that is part of the region’s historical heritage. During our visit, we’ll learn about its history and its connection to the religious traditions that gave rise to the Mexican posadas.
We will continue our tour with a visit to a piñata workshop, where we will discover how these colorful figures are made and learn about the techniques and materials that artisans use to keep this tradition alive. We will also learn about the meaning of the traditional seven-pointed piñatas and their importance in the December celebrations.
In addition, we'll have some free time to enjoy the local cuisine and explore the surrounding area before heading back to Mexico City.
Join us as we explore Acolman and discover the history, art, and traditions that make piñatas one of the most beloved symbols of a Mexican Christmas!
